Farm to Shore: “The Story Behind the Cup”

De La Finca family members and fifth-generation coffee farmers, Joel and Delmer, are two young entrepreneurs who were given a plot of land by Joel’s father (Joel Banegas Sr, Finca Mira Flores) to start growing coffee. Delmer took full responsibility for maintaining the land and workers while Joel decided to go to college to study agricultural engineering and specialize in coffee. They have joined forces to make Finca el Conejo Finca El Conejo (The Rabbit’s Farm) one of the few farms in Honduras’s Comayagua region focused on experimental cultivars and coffee processing. Their farm is full of beautiful catuai coffee trees but if you travel 200 meters up the mountainside you will find a cluster of rare pacamara coffee trees. This hybrid varietal, from the Pacas and Maragogipe varietals, is tricky to grow and low-yielding, deterring many coffee farmers from growing it.

This microlot is fully washed and dried on raised beds lending to it’s bright and delightfully clean finish. When brewed, this coffee offers a complex aroma with a creamy body. Notes of deep chocolate flavors and rich stone fruits shine through with an exceptional brightness that has us coming back for more!
